Short Bio on current residents of SIHG

December 2008
1. Baby Wayne
The newest addition to the SIHG family. Baby Wayne was brought to
SIHG on November 3rd when he was only 1 day old. His mother has
given him up for adoption and we are currently awaiting the final
consent for adoption. Baby Wayne will stay with SIHG for a period of
at least 6 months before he can legally be released for adoption either
internationally or locally.
2. Baby Joy
Baby Joy was born in April of 2008 and came to SIHG together with
her two older brothers, Brian and Derrick, in July 2008. The mother is
a 17 year old orphan who is single and does not have any means to
provide for three children. We are currently trying to have the
grandfather take care of the mother and get her back in school and in
January we will start the process of talking about possible release of
Joy for adoption.
3. Baby Moses
Moses date of birth has been estimated at April 2008 and we
therefore estimate Moses to currently be 8 months. Moses was found
abandoned along the road and was brought to SIHG through the
Children’s Department in July. Moses will stay at SIHG for a period of
6 months before he will be able to be released for adoption.
4. Debra
A sister from the Italian Catholic Mission up the road from SIHG,
came and brought Debra to our home beginning of February 2008.
Debra had been left, wrapped in a blanket, at the gate of the
nunnery. We estimated her date of birth in April of 2007 and that
would put Debra at age 20 months now. Debra has really come out of
her shell while developing into a toddler. She is walking and talking
and loves reading books, alone or even better while sitting on your
lap. Debra is in the process of being adopted and possible adoptive
parents are currently being assessed.
5. Ruth
Ruth came to SIHG end of March 2008. She has been brought by the
police after being found abandoned near our home. Estimated date of
birth is June 2007 and so Ruth is currently 18 months. She has grown
from a baby into a toddler while being at SIHG and is now a happy
little girl, although she does not do well with strangers… Ruth is
starting to develop her language skills. Ruth is currently in the process
of being adopted and from what we know now it most likely will be an
international adoption into Holland.
6. Derrick
Derrick came to SIHG together with his younger sister Joy and his
older brother Brian in July of 2008. The mother is a 17 year old
orphan who is single and does not have any means to provide for
three children. We are currently trying to have the grandfather take
care of the mother and get her back in school. Derrick is currently 2,5
years old and has no sponsor yet.
7. Maggie
Maggie came to SIHG in February of 2007. We found Maggie in state
of severe Kwashiorkor and took her to the hospital. Her weight was
10 pounds and she was 1,5 years old. We later found out the mother
was unable to take care of Maggie and we are currently in the
process of obtaining a release from the mother for adoption. Maggie
has developed tremendously in the home. She is a happy little girl
and has a quick mouth. Maggie is now 3 years old and does not have
a sponsor yet.
8. Mitchelle
Mitchelle turned 4 a few months ago and has been at SIHG since
august 2006. She came together with her two older sisters Rael and
Dorothy after their mother passed away in 2005. At the request of the
father, who is unable to take care of them, the siblings remain
together. We have been and are working with the father to have
Mitchelle be released for adoption as it would be so much better for
her to grow up in a ‘real’ family. In January Mitchelle will start formal
schooling but she has been educated already in the home and knows
her ABC’s, shapes and colors and has basic writing skills. She is really
excited that she will finally be able to go to school with the other
children. Mitchelle does not have a sponsor yet.
9. Brian
Brian is the oldest of the three siblings that came in July 2008. He
currently is 6 years old and will start school in January. The mother is
a 17 year old orphan who is single and does not have any means to
provide for three children. We are currently trying to have the
grandfather take care of the mother and get her back in school. Brian
is being sponsored by a Dutch couple, Henk and Lia Timmer. They
have visited the home in October 2008.
10. Shadrack
Shadrack is 8 years old and has been at SIHG since he was 2 days
old. His mother gave birth to him and left him in a slum area after
that. He was brought to SIHG by Medecins Sans Frontiers. Shadrack
is very bright and is currently attending a private school, paid for by
his educational sponsors Finn and Colleen Holm-Olsen. Shadrack is
sponsored in the home by Uncle Dwight. Shadrack wants to become a
scientist.
11. Kevin Zawadi
Kevin is 9 years old and has been at SIHG since he was a few days
old. His mother gave him up for adoption as she was too young and
went back to school. Kevin is very bright but has difficulty staying
focused. Kevin is being sponsored by Cecil Robbins and is currently
attending a private school as the ‘normal’ Kenyan schools did not
admit him due to his difficulties in concentrating.
12. Marvin
Marvin came to SIHG in 2003 after his mother passed away in 2002.
She was not married and upon her death Marvin was left with a
guardian from the church until he came to SIHG. Marvin is attending
standard 5 and will move into standard 6 starting in January. He is
currently 13 years old and has been actively involved with the dogs at
SIHG. He has won first prize as a junior handler during one of the
shows at the East African Kennel Club. Marvin is being sponsored by
Dan Silverie.
13. Gerald
Gerald is an orphan coming from a family of three siblings. The
grandfather had been taking care of all siblings since the death of the
mother in 2001. Gerald first came to SIHG in 2005 and was released
into the care of an uncle later that year. In 2008, Gerald has been
taken in by SIHG again due to reports from the grandfather about
unsafe environment at the uncle. Gerald is 14 years old but very
behind academically. He is currently in standard 4 and with tutoring
over the Christmas break will start standard 5 in January. Gerald does
not have a sponsor yet.
14. Kevin Waweru
Kevin is 14 years old and came to SIHG in October of 2007. His
mother passed away and he has an older sister who lives together
with her boyfriend. Initially the grandmother took over the care of
Kevin but upon her passing away as well, Kevin came to SIHG.
He has been changing schools frequently throughout his life and as a
result of that he currently is behind academically. His English has
improved a lot since being at SIHG. Kevin is very helpful with chores
around the house, like the garden and the dogs and he does not have
a sponsor yet.
15. Joseph
Joseph came to SIHG in 2001 together with his sister Jacintah. Both
his parents passed away and the family was unable to take care of
the children. Joseph has developed a great love for God and would
like to become a pastor one day. He is currently going into his last
year of Primary school and will do his final exams in December 2009.
Joseph is being sponsored by Dave and Margie Anderson.
16. Evelyne
Evelyne came to SIHG in October of 2007 after her mother had been
taken to prison in April of 2007. She came together with her two
sisters, Joyce and Susan. The children were living by them selves in
an unsafe environment and were relying in well wishers for food.
Eventually it was the head teacher of the school that requested our
help and the three sisters have been at SIHG since that time. The
mother is currently out of prison but unable to provide a safe
environment for the children. Evelyne is 8 years old and currently
does not have a sponsor yet.

Rael came to SIHG in august of 2006, after her mother had died in
2005 and the father was unable to take care of her and her siblings.
She has an older sister, Dorothy, and a younger sister, Mitchelle who
both also reside at SIHG. Rael is 8 years old and did not attend formal
education until she came to SIHG. She is currently in standard 2 and
will move to standard 3 at the start of the new school year. Rael is
adjusting to the home and has gone through some difficult periods.
She does not have a sponsor yet.
19. Rachel
Rachel is currently 11 years old and has been at SIHG since April of
2006. Her mother died in 2002 and father is unknown. Since the
death of the mother she has been shifted around between different
family members but none of them are able to take proper care.
Rachel is doing excellent in school and has been top of her class since
she started attending. Rachel is a real ‘drama queen’ in the good
sense of the word. She can do many different facial expressions and
has a lot of different voices and characters she can act out. Rachel is
polite and friendly and helps a lot with the babies and toddlers.
Rachel currently does not have a sponsor yet.

year and is being sponsored by Dr. Rachel Sharon and her husband
and son.

their parents passed away and the family was unable to take care of
them and provide a safe environment. Jacintah is 13 years old and is
starting standard 7 in January. She is sponsored by Ray and Laura
